Celebrated songwriter James (Jimmy) Kennedy (1902-1984) was originally from Omagh, Co. Tyrone. Chiefly a lyricist, he wrote around 2000 songs in a career spanning more than 50 years. He wrote the words to existing music, famously "Teddy Bears' Picnic", and had over 200 hits worldwide. J.J. Tohill has built up a remarkable collection relating to the musical genius of Jimmy Kennedy. From records and broadcasts to television shows, newspaper clippings, and song sheets, his extensive collection captures the legacy of one of Omagh’s most influential musical figures. In 2024, J.J. generously gifted this collection to Fermanagh & Omagh District Council, ensuring that Jimmy Kennedy’s story will be preserved and shared for generations to come.
