The original dressed surface of this stone fragment is rounded and may have been part of a Romanesque capital at the top of a structural support. The stone’s style suggests that is was from a 12th century church. Features of a face can be discerned - an oval, bulbous eye and part of a nose. The stone was picked up at Kiltierney on the site of an early monastery and later medieval grange belonging to the Cistercian Abbey of Assaroe in Donegal.
