This is a companion portrait to Queen Mary (FCM_1978_109). Portraits of King William and Queen Mary are based on the state portraits by Godfrey Kneller in 1690 and were copied in large numbers for distribution to the King's supporters. These portraits have survived the devastating fires of 1695 and 1705.
