"Child's Summer Coat"
1870 - 1910
Length: 0.98cm
This coat is made from heavy cotton. It is pleated at the back and embellished with broderie anglaise (embroidered cutwork). Although we don’t know who wore the coat, its colour and excellent condition suggest that it was kept for special occasions.
Children’s clothing in Victorian times was often highly decorated, and their best white clothing was worn to tea-parties.
