Shiels, John
Hand made
Length: 21cm
The Barton family arrived in Fermanagh from England during the Plantation. A descendant, Thomas Barton, born in 1695, became famous as “French Tom”. Thomas went to Bordeaux in France and established the well-known wine firm of Barton and Guestier. This spoon, bearing the inscription ‘HB’, was made for Hugh Barton in 1761 by the silversmith, John Shiels of Dublin. Hugh was the grandson of 'French Tom'.'
