Complete with its original box, Hornby trains were a ‘must’ toy for many young boys in the middle of the twentieth century. Frank Hornby was a shipping office clerk in Liverpool. He first started making models from thin metal strips in 1901. The simple cars, planes and boats were originally for his children but friends persuaded him to patent his work in metal. He did and the world famous MECCANO sets were born.
