Wells tin plate toys were first manufactured in 1919 when a skilled tool maker, Alfred Wells, opened a factory in Islington. In 1932 he bought Brimtoy, one of the then six largest British toy firms. The new company traded as Wells Brimtoy. It closed in 1965.
