This is a poignant portait of the promising young student, William Scott, painted with great affection by his mentor, Kathleen Bridle. In 1924, aged eleven, William Scott became a pupil at the Enniskillen Model School. Here, his early artistic promise was recognised. It was suggested that he receive lessons with the artist and teacher Kathleen Bridle (1987-1989). William Scott was given special permission to join her evening classes at the Enniskillen Technical College as he was under the required age of fourteen. Kathleen Bridle nurtured her young student’s dedication and enthusiasm, allowing him access to her collection of art books and catalogues at her home in 8 Townhall Street, Enniskillen.
Kindly given by Robert Scott and James Scott (the artist's sons)
