"Letter from The Irish Press to Matt Duggan"

Date
27 September 1973
Caption
Dear Mr. Duggan,//I have very much enjoyed the short story you kindly sent me - I thought it was written with a great deal of ease and the naturalness of its flow completely absorbed me. There are a few small points of style which need a little tidying up but that is no problem. I wasn't too keen on the title "Involvement" and wonder if you would care to suggest any alternatives.//As you will gather from the foregoing, I shall be very happy to publish the story - I take it that it has not appeared in print before. As I have a good deal in stock it might be about three months before I get it in. The fee will be £12 which is paid to you about four weeks after publication.//There is no doubt in my mind that you could certainly make a "hobby" out of writing but, as you no doubt know, the market nowadays is very restricted indeed.//I'd be most interested to see any other unpublished stories you have written and I would also like to read the four which appeared in "The Fermanagh Herald" - I can promise to return cuttings or copies safely and without delay.//Incidentally perhaps you would let me know where you were born as this detail is always of interest in the biographical notes I use.// Best wishes,//David Marcus//LITERARY EDITOR
